I could never have imagined a more terrible renting experience. My company is enrolled in Nationals Emerald program and I was encouraged by co-workers to give it a try. I made a reservation online and was charged $207 for 2 days, which was significantly higher than I was told it would be but I was okay with it and made a payment via my credit card. On arrival at the Pierre Trudeau airport in Montreal, I advised the National service representative at the counter that I would be driving the rental to their Toronto location for dropoff and would like to confirm there would be no additional charges for miles/km covered. The rep confirmed that the rental covered unlimited mileage, which was not new to me because all the other companies Ive rented with in the past have always provided that. I took a 5 hour drive to Toronto and returned the car an hour earlier than required. However, it was to my dismay that I was given another receipt for another $421.27. I asked what this was for and I was told it was for incurred charges. Unfortunately, they had billed me a second time for the mileage they had advised me would be covered. A couple of days later, I see that two seperate charges were placed on my card, one for $207 and the other for $421.27. Not only is this a breach of agreement but it is borderline fraudulent. I have filed a case with National, which they are now investigating and would be opening another case with my bank shortly. Needless to say that it was my first and most definitely my last time using Nationals rental service.

I have been renting from National from years and have always had great service.I have returned a vehicle with unknown scratches, chipped windshields that I did not see when picking up the car, and have had no issues with respect to being obliged to pay for damage not self generated. The best was when I rented a Cadillac, stopped for a quick lunch break 10 minutes from the airport and someone took away the drivers mirror. I can imagine the price for one of those with all the built in electronics. In Montreal I recently returned the vehicle and with the tinted vehicles failed to notice that I had left a jacket in the back seat. Took me about 2 minutes to realize I was missing something and returned immediately to retrieve. The shuttle guy had already disappeared with the car for a fill up no doubt, however the attendant quickly jumped into another car to go and get my jacket which with a 4 minute head start, he must have had to venture pretty far out to find his associate, which he did. A slightly embarrassed customer, me of course, tried to tip the attendant for his prompt service, but he would have nothing to do with accepting any additional gratuity. Theres a good reason why with all the car rental offers, I stick with National. Thanks guys!

As usual, we had a very good service but with an extra that allowed us to celebrate Christmas with your family! My aircraft was delayed December 24 evening and ended at 12:20 am or 10 minutes before closing time and despite my efforts I arrived at the rental desk at 12:40. Although the office was technically closed, the agent told us and we could have our reservation. Again thank you for that flexibility and congratulations to your employees. Happy New Year.

5 stars for Check out , it was easy, and the attendent was awesome. But.... 0 stars for when I returned the car there was no one available to check me in, and when one of the car jockeys got there he said, just leave it well email you a receipt. Then after driving a mere 42 km, and filling it completely prior to return, they charged me for 5 litres of fuel. Good luck figuring out how to cvontact them. I emailed, got a reply saying they appreciated my feedback and someone would call. They did not and then my second email got this reply..."Thank you for your response! We apologize, but we are no longer able to reply to messages sent to this email address due to a recent upgrade." And theres no where else that I could find a number or email that worked. The next week I was in Moncton and the manager there reversed it, but National Montreal - check the fuel gauge and bill accordingly, and National - your on-line customer service sucks.

For the most part, the experience was awesome. Being an Emerald Club member... I skipped the line and went to the lot, picked out a car, then drove up to an attendant and basically drove off. The only thing that could be better. I flew in from the States for work. On the website, it gives you the option to add a "Travel Tab" to your rental. This allows you to have access to wifi and maps while you travel internationally. Because of this, I did not add on a Canada plan to my existing cell service – because I would be connecting to the Travel Tab. But once I got my vehicle in Montreal, the attendant notified me that they do not have Travel Tabs in that location. This left me in a predicament as I was planning on using that for navigation and wifi while I travelled. This option should be removed so travelers can prepare in advance. Other than that, it was great.

I always use National when I visit Montreal, they have good selection and do a great job keeping the cars in good shape. On my last trip, I had to leave the car at a nearby hotel parking lot due to heavy snow overnight. I was planning to drop the key and call back to ask them for help. When I got there at ~4:30 am, to my surprise, a gentleman was still working at the counter, turned out he was working over time by himself. He graciously agreed to work with his manager to help arrange the pickup. Later I was further surprised that they didnt charge me for the pickup or the time that the car stayed at the hotel parking lot. This is easily the best car rental service I have used anywhere. It is especially comfortable knowing that in case something goes wrong like what I experienced, they got your back.

Nice selection of SUVs in the Emerald Club section. I generally prefer to rent sedans because they get better mileage, but only one sedan was available, and it had a strong smell, so I selected a Ford Escape, which was in excellent condition and worked out great. It was a Titanium, so it had lots of bells and whistles, which was nice. Only problem with it was that Android Auto was disabled, and the man at the Emerald Club gate said it didnt have Android Auto, so it took me a few days to figure out that it did indeed have it. In the mean time I was forced to use Fords navigation, which was oblivious to both traffic and road closures, leading to some unnecessary stress. So not perfect, but still better than most car rentals Ive experienced.

I have been using National for both business and personal purposes for many years in many locales in North America and service has always been very good to excellent. On my most recent trip (holiday), I picked up a car from the Emerald Club aisle at Montréal Trudeau Airport and, two weeks later, dropped it off at the Québec City Jean Lesage Airport. The service I got was outstanding. In particular, Mircea Dan in Montréal and Charles Falardeau in Québec City were very helpful and pleasant to deal with. They took the time to explain a few things to me and to make sure that I was satisfied with my entire experience with National. I could not have asked for better.
