Lodging a BBB complaint and lives up to all used car dealer and salespeople stereotypes. Approach all positive MyCar reviews with a critical eye even if you think you’ve done ALL the research… I bought a low-mileage compact from MyCar after reading positive reviews about the company. Over the course of one month, I’ve since had a number of problems with the salesman Mike F. (epitome of a used car salesman), Marcel T. from finance and the Service Centre. Shopping & Test Drive Experience: met with Mike F. and outlined my needs/budget. He shows me three cars in my price bracket, then proceeds to get rude/defensive when I asked about other car options slightly above my price range, and finally, decides not to wait around anywhere visible when going for a test drive and coming back to test another. Strike 1. Car Purchase Decision: told Mike F. I wanted the Ford Focus, however, squeaking noises were coming from the left side of the car (needed new bushings). Gave his word that it would be taken care of — learned post-purchase he never had the Service Centre look into this repair issue. Strike 2. FURTHER, I asked for a draft of the total bill to know the costs of the vehicle, to which Mike F. ‘didn’t know’ how to do that. Strike 3. Financing: dealt with Marcel T. As other reviewers note, he ‘imposed’ a $1,500+ life insurance fee on our loan (until we could show we were already covered, despite him even speaking to my insurance broker telling him to remove it), forced a GAP interest rate upfront payment to lower interest rates and has taken almost 1 month to refund the $1.5k (he’s currently in Jamaica; was supposed to be dealt with in a day in mid-December and has yet to be resolved). Strike 4. And finally, along the financing route, I asked for a draft of the total bill to know the final cost (a fair consumer right) — like Mike F., he kept delaying it. Strike 5. Ownership and 2 Service Repairs (to date): received the vehicle after 4 days and everything seemed fine. Loud and annoying squeaking started coming from the whole left side of the vehicle. My partner takes 1 work day off and makes an appointment with the Service Centre to have it looked at. Service Centre mocks her for being a ‘woman’ and not knowing what she is talking about. Service Centre then finds out we were right and oils the bushings; some noise reduced, but not good enough. I return the car a second time to the Service Centre and ask for the 6bushings to all be replaced on the left side. Josh, a mechanic, good about that and follows-through. However, Service Centre offers no rental vehicle while they work on yours. $50 down the drain and a second work day lost. Strikes 6 and 7. Post-Purchase: I spoke with Mike F. about my frustration with the whole experience. I was met with “this is your problem, not mine… what do you expect from a used car?”. I then asked to know who Marcel T.’s replacement was in finance (while he was on vacation) to get back my $1.5K. Mike F. didn’t know, or even have the professionalism to figure it out (thankfully, another associate stepped in). Finally, I asked for Mike F. to provide me with a copy of the 30-day return policy. Of course, he didn’t know anything about it and would have to direct me to the proper associate. Surprise: Mike F. didn’t know who that was. Strikes 8, 9 and 10. Overall, the pre- and post-purchase experience at MyCar is wretched ordeal. The company does not live up to its slogan: the cost is NOT clear, and full disclosure is NOT here. Even if you do all the research, make sure you have an insurance broker and contract lawyer with you. These guys are scum in matching outfits.

Sales: The sales person was nice and relatively helpful considering how busy they were. She wasnt too pushy. Not sure what other people are talking about here but sounds like some people go in here expecting rainbows and lollipops. You still have to know how to deal with sales people properly and rationally like anywhere else. The only complaint I have is that I wasnt told it was a one price shop at the start, ie. no negotiating. Mechanic/Service: There was clearly an issue with the tires or bearings on the car so I insisted the issue be resolved. I was told the tires were replaced with "New" ones - they werent new but still the problem was resolved. I believe they also changed all the disk brakes and said they did full inspection. I had a very tight timeline between selling my car and buying this car and they were able to accommodate me. The car came more or less fully detailed and ready to go when I needed it. Financing: This is where they slap you with a admin fee or whatever they call it, something like $600-700 which they claim they HAVE to charge because this is what the bank charges them or something like that. The interest rates were also quite a bit higher than normal. Their whole financing system seemed a little sketchy and took quite a while even considering I have a high credit score. I DONT recommend signing up for any insurance or warranty they propose, its not worth it. In the end, I would say that I got the car for the same price I would have gotten at another dealership with negotiating the price down. I got them to add in tinted windows and rubber floor mats...because I felt I needed to negotiate something! FYI - they also gave me a bunch of coupons for discounted oil changes, detailing and brake work. Possibly some other discounts too which I thought were actually pretty valuable...except for having to drive out to their shop. Car: Ive had the car for a year and a half (40,000 km) and it runs great. No issues so far! I have recommended this dealer to friends but more so to just go to check out to consider for themselves. I probably wouldnt buy another car here just because I feel like I could potentially negotiate a better deal elsewhere and get better financing (3.5 stars).

Ever gone to look at a car and you get all set up for the test drive when the salesman decides to come along like some kind of creepy third wheel? There he is in the backseat; looming. Watching. Listening. You suddenly think of everything youre going to say, positive or negative. Any concerns you might have with the car are brushed away immediately. Seriously, the worst kind of date. Then you get to talking about financing back at the office where youre offered a luke warm beverage from one of those crappy machines that makes everything taste like train station coffee. The salesman has been totally nice the whole time. Hes encouraging and telling you about this crazy green car that he just cant sell and talking about your kids and then you say, We need to think about it. and he turns into a demon with eight foot long arms that wrap around you right there in the seat and his breath smells like onions and he says, How can I get you in this car TODAY? and wont let you go until you promise him your first born and a monthly payment roughly in the range that only Kanye West can manage. Thats what you wont get at Mycar. What you will get, if you happen to find Tim working on the day you take your magical drive to Richmond, is someone asking you the questions you want to answer. What do you like? What dont you like? Whats your price range? The next thing you know theres a line of cars ready for you to test drive. And no, Tim isnt sitting in the backseat telling you a rattling noise is normal or thats what these engines sound like Tim is back at the dealership likely bringing cars around for another customer. How cool is it to drive a car youre interested in and be able to talk about it while you are out there? To actually feel what it would be like to just go on a drive? How refreshing to show up at the dealership and have a line of vehicles ready for you to try out. Take your pick! And theyre all in your price range and have been selected based on your likes and dislikes. Id encourage anyone to visit mycar. They stand behind their lowest price guarantee as well. It was, by far, the best experience I have had buying a car and I cant recommend it highly enough.
