we had a horrible experience with renting a car from Wed. Sept. 21 to Sat. Sept. 24. We used the car to travel to Victoria via the ferry service from vancouver. Once we stopped the car in a parking lot we had the car stall every time we tried to put the car in drive or reverse. We tried this numerous times during a 30 minute period. When we called the Vancity car rental we were told to have the car towed to a local garage in Victoria to have it inspected and to pay for the cost initially so they could settle with us later. They also started asking if we did anything to the car etc which was very offensive. We never received consideration for providing another car to get us out of the situation but instead we were supposed to resolve the problem ourselves. We eventually forced the car to drive by applying more gas forcefully and this got the car to move forward however with much hesitation from the engine everytime we tried to slow down. We did not feel the car was safe. The car ended up at a Nissan dealer for 2 days while we commuted by bus and had to rent another car in Victoria. The car dealer could not find the problem after 2 days of diagnostics. We went to test drive the car on Sat morning to see if we could drive the car back to Vancouver via the ferry, We were able to get the car back to the car rental company by applying the gas more aggressively and keeping it in neutral while applying more gas when we were at a stop. The car still hesitated significantly when we tried to accelerate which did not make us feel safe especially since the car could stall without warning. What we should have done was left the car at the Nissan dealership for them to retrieve at their own expense. The nissan dealer gave us excellent service on a car we were renting and provided us shuttle service back to our rental condo. They tried to assist us more than Vancity Car Rental did. Based on the risks that they imposed and lack of proper support we felt that the least they would do is delete all charges for the rental instead they allowed 2 days credit from the 4. The rental company still insisted that the car did not have any problems which I assumed was to coverup for any potential liability claims. Based on how they handled the situation we feel that they are not worthy of our business and any recommendations.

Made a phone reservation for a car. Guy on the phone told me, that car rental price for a day will be less than $30 and that security cash deposit will be $500. When I arrived at their office to pick up a car they told me, that rental price will be over $80 with some mystical additional charges. Security deposit $1000. I was in a hurry so I agreed to pay what they were asking for. * On their web page they say "Vancity Car Rentals Inc. is proudly Canadian owned" - maybe they are Canada citizens, but originally theyre from India.. * "We respect the value of your time and will never keep you waiting. Pick up your car in just 5 minutes." - whole process took about 45 minutes until I got the car. * They even didnt ask me what car do I want. I wanted a compact car (told that over the phone), but got mid-size, which was not suitable for me! * Car itself was terrible. Everything inside was sticky, windshield dirty from inside, there was no windshield wash fluid, car seats had multiple cigarette burns... When I picked up the car, fuel indicator showed 3 bars (about 1/4 of tank). I drove around a city, finished my errands and before returning a car I was going to refuel tank to 3 bars (currently showed 2 bars). I fueled for $10 - still 2 bars. Ok, another $10 - still 2 bars. Things getting strange.. Another $20 - STILL 2 BARS! Thats INSANE! And after another $5 fuel indicator rised to almost full tank! My friend has exactly the same car and he never experienced anything like this! I think, that they somehow altered fuel indicator to scam people! DO NOT TRUST those people from INDIA! NEVER RENT A CAR FROM THEM!

We were actually forced to use this company, because of the problems with our credit card. Well, my boyfriend called the company he asked about the possibility to pay with debit card and how much would it be for the car we wanted. When I came there car was actually MUCH MORE expensive!!!! It was even more expensive as when I was borrowing for four whole days from Budget!!!! and I was only borrowing car for the weekend. They do not have this natural way, that when you wont give car back on sunday evening but monday early morning it does not matter, they charge you as WHOLE EXTRA day!!!!!!! Other thing was the car, the car smelled as somebody was smoking there for goooood 5 years, even the trunk smelled like ash! Then I did not received full gas, only something BELOW 1/3 and they did not even bother to mentioned it!!! When I was giving car back, they of course did not have any problem to take "additional" gas for free, but they gave me pretty hard time to give me back my deposit on the card!!! By the time I was there, there was another customer who got TWO broken cars from them and at the end they did not have problem to charge him extra day, because he was 3 hours late!!!! and another lady who was charged TWENTY dollars for one point of the fuel scale!!!!!! Did I mentioned that they did not offer me NOTHING for the extra gas I gave them??? NEVER EVER, do not rent a car here they are absolutely NOT customer friendly and they do not even try!!!!!!

8/28/17 Vancity Car Rental Customer Service Customer Service Agent; I would like to take the time to Thank You and your Agent Ruzeen at the Howe Street Holiday Inn. My wife and I had originally rented a car from Enterprise for our 11 day stay in British Columbia, traveling from Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. Just prior to our departure on the 10th we discovered that Enterprise does not except debit leaving us in a pickle. After a few more hours of pre arranging we thought we now had a Car Rental with National until we arrived at YVR at the National Rental Desk when they refused to rent us a car. Even though we had a conformation from the Company vai Email accepting our debit. I always thought Cash was better than Credit but not so I guess. While sitting in the Vancouver Airport having spent 3 hours trying to find a car, we get a call from Ruzeen, he has got a car for us! He was polite, we explained this was a debit card, not a problem a retainer or deposit will take care of that, the car was clean, good on gas and our Vacation went as planned. I can only Thank You for doing what you say you do, both Enterprise and National definitely don’t , Thanks Again for saving our 10 days in British Columbia. Sketchy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Scam!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nasty guy!!!!!!!!!!!!! The sketchiest car rental you can find! The guy first tried to rip us off before we accepted a reasonable rate. But this isnt the worst part. The car we got is a piece of junk. At first glance, it seems ok. But when we realised that the car made terrible noise we started to inspect the car. So full of problems. when we drove it back to the guy to ask for an explanation he, like other reviews mention, simply refused to acknowledge the problems and pretend that there is no problem. We insisted that we want to get another car. We went there on time to pick up another car he promised us. But he told us to wait for an hour. So we ended up getting a much smaller car cuz we didnt wanna wait. The smaller car is in pretty bad condition as well although not as bad as the other one. And yet this business just doesnt cease to surprise us. Despite that he promised that all the cars are perfectly safe, I found that the air bag for the passenger seat is gone! I wish I checked the reviews before I decided to rent from him. This place really drives you crazy. I also highly suspect those 5 star ratings. probably paid reviews. Vancity car rental deserves 0 star.
