I booked a car for a family member with National at the Northfield Road location on Friday Aug 4th. She was coming from Vancouver to Nanaimo and needed a car to drive up island. When I booked it I was told that National would pick her up at the Ferry Terminal in Departure Bay and take her to the office to do the paper work. When she arrived she called and was told a driver would be on the way to collect her. After 30 minutes wait she called again and was told that they do not offer this service and was advised to take a taxi to their office. She was told that the taxi would give her a good rate if she mentioned "National Car Rental" but the taxi driver knew nothing of this arrangement. I have used National in the past and they have picked me up from the ferry to their office. I am very disappointed that on my recommendation my sister rented the car from you folks and was not accommodated as was told over the phone the first time. I suggest you inform your staff that there is a pick up service provided from Departure Bay Ferry to your office. My sister ended up paying for the taxi and the charges associated with rental.

Rented a compact car from national and it had a very serious wobble to it which got worse as my trip up island progressed. When I returned the vehicle to the office in Nanaimo I made sure to drive with one of the employees to show them my issue. She was surprised by how bad the car was driving and apologised to me for the situation and said she would make sure it was brought to the managers attention and I would prob be compensated. I phoned back later in the week when the manager was in and after their mechanic had looked at it at was told it was just a tire balancing issue (which I know it wasnt as Ive worked on numerous cars and the car would lift funny at slow speeds) I was charged full price which was not satisfactory. I said I wanted to speak to the senior manager and was told they would phone me in the next couple days to settle my complaint. I never heard from them again. Horrible service, horrible experience, horrible car rental. Total rip off. Dont rent from here.

If you are required to rent a car and can overnight to rent from another location in the morning, I strongly recommend it! This "franchise" has the worst customer service and takes no fault in communicating with clients if rates, mileage or location changes. REGARDLESS of having confirmed days prior with staff members and records of names and times! To even having another individual answer the phone and say " I may be the manager/owner depending on what the concern is". Is this place run by barnyard animals? Still doubt this, for there is much more structure in a barn and respect among animals this this circus of small business owner yuppies.

An agent was not available when we returned our week long rental, and because of this we were charged for millage that should have been included in our contract. Have spoken with the head office customer service about this matter, however nobody at this location chooses to answer and email or phone call. It has been weeks, and zero contact. The whole matter has been extremely disappointing, as we have been using National for years and have always had impeccable service.

Simply awesome. I have used the Northfield location twice now and these guys ROCK! My Subaru outback was ready to go and had a full tank. Very friendly and speedy service. They also had no problem helping me when I had to bring it back to figure out a weird middle rear seat belt issue. This location and staff are completely recommended! Great vehicle too! Return was smooth and seamless. Great job! thanks.

We paid extra for National because of the free pick-up service, but the driver did not show up, forcing us to pay for alternate transport. The reservation office advised the driver was "on his way" multiple times, but when asked how the driver could not have made the 5 min trip, being "on his way" for nearly an hour, we were coolly advised pick-up service is "not guaranteed".

After we tried to rent a car somewhere else and our reservation got lost, we didnt have a car on the island, we tried another company but the price was ridiculously high and after that we called national and they were very friendly in the phone as well in the office. Helpful staff and gave us lots of options top choose! We totally recommend this branch!

Very friendly people at the desk, they took the time to offer me to chose from 3 different cars at the same rate (much cheaper than in Victoria, btw), they even helped us with a problem on our personal car that we used to pick-up the car rental. No surprise on return and they drove me at the ferry terminal instantly after, no waiting at all. Thank you !

Terrible and incompetent customer service. Delayed us by a total of 4 hours the two times we had to deal with them during our vacation and we were the only people there, we also had a pre-existing reservation. Use literally any other rental company at the airport avoid this company at all costs.

Worst national car rental Ive ever been to. Rent from national once a week and this franchise location treats you like youve never been there before. No coverage. Third party insurance. Rinky dink operation. Rafael is the guy you dont want to talk to. Terrible terrible service.

I filled the rental just prior to drop off. Five days later my credit card shows a charge. When I phoned the office I was told the charge was for gas to "top up" the tank. Driving time between my fill up and drop off - 5 minutes at most!

Awful customer service. Vehicle was not quite 2 hours late, due to an accident which was broadcast on radio/news. We were told that wasnt their problem with a nice smirk and charged late fees.
