My father saw a 2006 Volvo S40 advertised at $6800 on 12/7. He told them that I would come look at it the next day. When I came in on 12/8 the next morning the price had mysteriously risen to $7800, with picture proof. In addition, the sales lady assured me that the car had passed a Pre-purchase inspection, but I double checked the CV boots (a common failure point on these cars) and I came back with a handful of grease. The boot was completely worn through. The trunk of the vehicle also did not open without crawling through the back seat and having one salesman push up while the other one pulled. I then asked if they would take the vehicle to the Volvo/Volkswagen dealership in town to check on a warning light that stated one of the doors/hood/trunk was open. The salesman and I triple checked that everything was closed. I went for lunch and gave them 3+ hours to complete this task, but when I came back to the dealership the car was parked in exactly the same spot and they had NOT taken it to be scanned, giving the excuse that they had done an in-house scan. Based on the CV boot, I did not feel this was adequate. Beware of Smoking Deals, they do not inspect the cars they sell and are not honest.
