I was pretty worried about the other reviewer who did not get an answer from Routes when they called from the airport. However, my experience was very good. After we exited customs, I called them and they said they would dispatch a van immediately and it would take about 25 minutes. They said the normal time is 15 minutes, but due to the snow, it might take longer. The actual wait time was less than 20 minutes. The lady on the phone said to wait at door number 6 and to look for a silver minivan without any name on the sides. The lady asked for my phone number and the driver called about 3 minutes before arriving to alert us (nice touch). Note: Wait by the normal baggage area, NOT across the street in the rental car shuttle area. Incidentally, while I was returning the car and the man was printing out my receipt, the phone rang and no one answered it. I was wondering if that might be someone at the airport calling for a pickup (so keep calling back if that happens). The car we rented was a Nissan Altima with about 25000km or 15000 miles. I thought that was high miles compared to other cars I have rented. But the car was very clean inside and out and ran beautifully. A really nice touch was that the car was stored inside their warehouse, so it was ice/snow free and warm when we drove away. The temp was -15C when we arrived. There are a couple things that they could have done better. 1. I was not given a map of the city, with a "star" when the rental agency was located. This was my first time in Calgary. I was counting on my Verizon USA smart phone to guide me, but I found out later that I did not have a mobile data plan (WiFi only). Luckily, I printed a map from the rental agency to the hotel and the hotel offered me a nice city map. 2. It took over 30 minutes in the rental car agency to check out (total of 1 hour from the time I called at the airport to the time we drove away) and there were no other customers. They must have had an old computer system. The lady was really struggling to make it work. Finally, she used an old fashioned credit card imprinter (I have not see one of those in over 15 years) and I signed a blank rental agreement form. She said everything was "in the computer." I was a little worried about that, but upon our return we were charged the right amount and a receipt was given. Overall, we rented a car for a week and paid half of the national rental car agencies and received about 90% of the service of national rental car agencies. Good Deal.

I would definitely suggest going with a more trusted name. Theyre not located at the airport, you have to call for their shuttle, but that wasnt the biggest problem for me. They advertise cheap prices through enterprise as a contracted company for Nü car rentals. When I arrived the attendant told me that my insurance policy was not an adequate amount of coverage. I told him I wasnt going to buy insurance. At first he told me that "he wasnt telling me I HAD TO buy it" just informing me that my insurance wasnt a very high coverage and if anything severe were to happen to the car or another vehicle involved in the accident that the financial responsibility would be on me. Of course I understood this, Ive rented cars throughout the U.S. and in Europe and have never been heckled this much to buy insurance and in fact never been told I couldnt say no to their insurance. I was only renting the car for less than 24 hours and did not feel the need to purchase their insurance. This went on for a while and I just kept repeating that I wasnt going to buy insurance. As he realized that he wasnt convincing me of buying the insurance, he changed to tell me that he could not let me rent the car without buying their insurance. The other employees seemed nicer, but they were not trying to get my money. Beware of other five star reviews, Ive seen many poorly reviewed companies lately who have asked employees or other acquaintances to leave high reviews to boost their overall. This company was not very trustworthy.

Unfortunately my experience with this company was most unsatisfactory. I initially tried to book a vehicle on line for a rental 24hrs later from the Calgary airport location. After entering all personal and billing information and hitting the reserve button, a red bannered screen appeared advising that the " booked date/ time was unavailable please re submit". I couldnt see why the information wouldnt have been accepted so resubmitted my request with the same result. I contacted the Calgary office who advised that they didnt have any of the types of vehicles I had tried to reserve book could provide me with a vehicle for 3x the price of the original quote. I declined, went to the Costco travel website and successfully booked my vehicle with Budget, albeit $17.00 more but with pickup at the airport terminal not the Mickey Mouse pickup routine Routes offers. Imagine my surprise when I checked my email to find out I now had 2 confirmed car bookings with Routes as well as with Budget. So how I got from the original advisement that my booking was invalid to 2 bookings is beyond me. Phone calls to both the Calgary office and the 1-800 centre was just an exercise in futility. To add insult, after cancelling the bookings I didnt think I had made, my credit card was charged for 2 default charges for cancelling the booking within 48 hrs prior to pick up. Sorry to be so long winded but hell will freeze over before I deal with this company again.

We rented a vehicle from Routes Calgary from August 17-22. Booking was simple and quickly done in advance online. Upon our arrival at the Calgary airport, we called for the shuttle to the depot which arrived within 5 minutes of our call. Id like to note that it is CLEARLY noted when booking that this rental service is located off site from the airport and that a shuttle is required to get to the depot from the airport. The shuttle drive was only 15 minutes from the airport to the depot. We were warmly greeted by all staff members at Routes from the shuttle driver onward. We were offered the option to upgrade our reservation which we accepted. We had no problems when we told them we wanted to use our own insurance policy - just make sure you bring your insurance documentation with you. Check out was also quick and simple. We left in the shuttle to the airport within 15-20mins after arriving to drop off the car because there were 4 other people also being shuttled to the airport. Overall we had a great experience with this company at a much lower cost than renting a car onsite at the airport. We would recommend this company and would rent from here again. :)

They are crooks. They add fees for anything. a long time is expected at the airport in the cold. They call us liar. We paid over $ 600 for only 5 days (small car). It is thought to save money and actually its extremely expensive. Its a shame. Pay attention to your BC card, they keep an impression and they can take the money they want and when they want to ($ 300) for no reason (charge of having damaged their car 11 days after. DO NOT CHOOSE THIS PARTICULAR CAR OWNER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!
