Wouldnt recommend them for anything more than an oil change, if that. Purchased a used vehicle and it ran great. It began overheating and I smelt rad fluid while it was running so I did a gasket compression test on the vehicle and it yielded a result of possible head gasket repair. Cetus was the “go-to” shop, having received great reviews on here as well as a recommendation from a mechanic I have known for years; they were my best choice since they could get me in right away for an assessment. I had push back as a couple told me they took it there for an oil change and the next day the car wouldn’t start properly, they took it in and they were told that the injectors needed to be replaced – not a cheap job so they took it elsewhere for a quote and nothing was found to be wrong with the vehicle (?). I hesitated but given I needed a vehicle as soon as possible they were my only option. It was in the shop for a couple days, they claimed they would work on it first thing in the morning the next day but it got pushed back. They came back after the assessment and they had found that two (2) head gaskets needed to be replaced and quoted me just shy of $3K, not after the lady at the front tried to thrown on a few “extras, I called around and that was comparable so I went with it. They had the truck in the shop for the better part of a week; I had to call to get a progress update and was told that it will be a couple more days, each time. Went to pick it up and it ran great for a couple of days. The truck started to idle very low at a stand still and almost puttered to a stop. Fuel lines was my first thought. Then after leaving the truck for a couple of hours, I jumped in to start it and it wouldn’t turn over, tried again, same result, third time I turned the key and put the pedal to the floor and it rev’d right up. Called the shop and they took it in to check it out the next day. They took it in and couldn’t repeat the symptom. “started every time” – “tried it at least 50 times and didn’t have an issue” was what I was told – weird. So I left with the truck, the next day, same thing, over the next couple of days it happened each and every time I turned the key and it would turn over. Called up the shop they took it in for a couple days with the same result but this time they came back and said I need to replace the fuel injectors and quoted me $1000+ for the job.. I started seeing a trend. I took the truck back and same issue, brought it back in they gave me a loaner car for a week and nothing was found out and I doubt they even looked at it at this point. Spoke with the owner and he wouldn’t even give me a break on the price even though it was starting each and every time before they “fixed it”. I am extremely disappointed and have continued to turn people away from Cetus ever since. Wouldn’t recommend them for anything under the hood. Maybe they need to swindle people so the guys on the floor can pay for their Escalades in the parking lot. Do better.

COMPLETELY UPDATED REVIEW: Got an oil change to test the waters, as well as replacing an O2 sensor. The oil change was fine. The O2 sensor was supposed to be done, but they called back to say they needed to order in the exact Toyota part, which would cost about $200 more, and wouldnt be available for two days. (I dont know why they claim they needed the Toyota part, since its made by Denso and used on half a dozen makes.) Figured that was one small strike, and wanted to give them a second chance. Next time, I booked an appointment and asked for a number of specific fluids to be replaced. I was told they would examine the fluids and decide if they needed replacing or not. When I arrived, they didnt even have a booking for me! Still, they took my car in. A few hours later, they phoned and said everything was fine except the power steering fluid, which would cost $175. I said go ahead. At the end of the day, when I picked up the car, they presented a bill for $40 more than they had quoted me on the phone. "the P/S uses ATF, and that costs more." Yes it does, but they should have known that beforehand. It makes me wonder if it really needed replacing at all, or if it was "dirty" because ATF is darker than P/S fluid. Also, my recommended service sheet still shows that I need an O2 sensor and air filter, which means they didnt check either of those items. So they have: 1) messed up a scheduled repair 2) refused to do the work I asked for (specific fluid changes) 3) Lost an appointment booking 4) under-quoted (or overcharged?) for work 5) possibly did work that wasnt necessary (Toyota doesnt recommend flushing P/S at all) Also, my previous review was partly due to the fact that they offer your second oil change free if you post a positive review here. Are they paying for positive reviews? Kinda. The staff is very friendly and the place *feels* good to go into, but I just see too many things wrong, either accidental or deliberate. I guess Ill keep searching for a good shop.

UPDATE: Not Happy. Went to Cetus a few months ago for my Infiniti which was stalling at idle, they told me it was the mass airflow sensor so they replaced it. I have really bad luck with vehicles so every time I take my car in I like to ask if EVERYTHING is ok and good to go so I dont have to return AGAIN. They insisted everything was ok. TWO DAYS LATER my muffler fell off! Not from anything other than it was just completely rusted over, thats not something that could just happen overnight and when I asked if EVERYTHING was ok you think they couldve mentioned something like that. Two days after that the car was STALLING AGAIN and I havent been able to drive it since and it was NEVER the mass airflow sensor causing the problem so right there i was out $600.00 to replace something that wasnt even the issue. Lost all my trust for this place and will not return or recommend unless they want to do something about it. Great customer service! I have taken all 3 of my past and present vehicles to Cetus with a variety of different issues and they have fixed them all flawlessly or given me advise. They go over everything with you thoroughly and give you an exact quote before they proceed with anything. Honest, reliable and affordable! Would recommend

Picked this place from its reviews when I first moved to the city and needed an out of province inspection. Was told I needed a few things as any aging car might need. The "repairs" done didnt seem like they were done. A valve cover gasket was changed but after the first 20km leaked just like the old one. That was annoying but when I was driving I took a corner and something didnt feel right. I jacked up my car and found that the axle nut was completely loose not even hand tight and with the car in the air the entire rear wheel hub rattled around. I called and complained nothing occurred until I left a review with napa and someone called back to say bring the car back so they could fix it. At this point i wasnt going to try and drive any further and risk my life and fixed it myself. I was told the reason the poor job was done was because the mechanic working on my car was going on vacation. I hope they fired him and have better quality control in place to prevent anyone else having to deal with this. Cant recommend this shop to anyone and will never go back.
