We are left carless after our experience with Northstar Hyundai. It all started with a friend of ours referring us to them. We went there and spoke with a salesman and we figured out a car and a price. They didnt have the color of car we choose but said that they would look for it. We then met with a finance manager he took both mine and my wifes information and did not say that there were any problems after pulling up our credit reports. I wanted to put the car in my company’s name for the write off and once again no problem. After a few days we called the sales manager and were told that he was looking for a car for us. We then sold our family car on Kijiji within 24 hours in case we need more of a down payment. After a few more days the sales manager contacted us with different color options and I asked him if we were approved this is what he said ”I wouldn’t be looking for a car for you if you weren’t approved”. He then lent us a car while they continued to search for our color choice. After just over a week since we thought we bought a car we were told that they could not find the car that we wanted and that all of Western Canada were sold out of the color in this model. They then offered to bring it in a different color at no obligation and we could decide after seeing it. At around this point they upgraded our loaner from a two door to a four door and we continued to wait. We appreciated this as we have two small children. Now at about the two week mark when the car was supposed to be in Edmonton I began to lose faith in the process. At about the two and a half weeks I had a message on my phone from lady in finance saying that the car was not in but we could do up the final paper work. I wondered to myself what happened to the no obligation before seeing the car. The lack of communication and information got me wondering what else is out there so I called the west end Hyundai dealership only to find out that they have the exact car in the right color that I was looking for and that Northstar never bothered to call them about it. At this point I was left with two choices. One is to tell Northstar who led me and my wife down the garden path for three weeks to call to get this car or the other is to write a deal on the new car and get financed there. My wife and I decided that the west end dealership was a better choice. Kaboom the next day we find out from the west end that my credit has one bad flaw and were not approved they speculated that we were maybe getting some in house financing with Northstar. Then we got a phone call from Northstar saying that our car is in and to bring back the loaner. We take the loaner back and they told us that we lost our financing. I tried to save the deal with a $10 000.00 down payment but no luck. The car was beautiful and my wife was sad so they tried to get her financed without me. Three more days of no communication and I phone the finance lady to ask what is happening. I am then transferred to a gentleman that I had not spoken with previously to and he said the first approval was on my wife and the company without me. I understood at that point why. We were refunded our deposit. So here we are my wife is driving a rental and her credit score is down by 30 points from all of this and I am left asking why. Northstar Hyundai are not bad people but their communications skills need improvement. Thank you.

A few useful information to everyone those who buy or planning on buying a car from here 1. Vehicle mechanical assessment form You would find everything marked "GOOD" when you see the check list. But this has no meaning that everything is perfect, especially the fluid levels and leaks. I contacted them regarding a rear differential fluid leak a few months after my purchase. I found out from a mechanic that my transmission system fluid was never changed. It was marked good on the check list. When I asked them about it, I was told that they mark everything "GOOD" just to pass the inspection and their meaning of "GOOD" is safe to operate the vehicle and the rest is the buyers responsibility. Now I ended up with a $500 worth repair on my car just in 5 months. 2. Free lifetime oil change I paid $300 for a lifetime oil change. I did my first oil change recently and everything was good. When I asked them about my second free oil change, I was told that the oil change is free only when I do the other inspections and services there. It is not like you go and get just a free oil change. You pay for all the other things except your oil change. Apparently paying for other things is not cheap as we all know. So you are not pretty much using your second and the rest of oil changes thinking about the other $200-$300 that you are paying for something you dont have to. 3. Communication I contacted them when I decided not to be a part of lifetime oil change program. I did not go for any oil change until that time. I phoned them and said I do not want to be part of it and I would like to get my money back or please do some changes in my finance agreement. I was totally disappointed with their attitude. I was trasferendo to sales department saying they can help me coz they are the ones who sold me that car. Then the sales people transferred me to the finance department saying it is has to be dealt with them. Then the finance department transferred me to the service department saying its all up to the service department. I left a few voicemails and they never called me back. So I pretty much lost that $300. I would not recommend this place to others.

In December I bought an Accent. Love the car. Overall a good experience. There were a few hiccups and when I went in to see someone for my insurance to finalize everything no one told him I was even there. The person behind the desk didnt even know who I was asking for. So the man went home and I waited for an hour. I got frustrated and went up to the desk. Clearly agitated I tried to keep calm but my voice showed signs of impatience. I asked if he would be done soon and reminded her I was waiting for an hour. She looked at her desk. Said, "Umm." Looked at the ringing phone and answered it. I was floored. She didnt look at me and ask me if it was okay that she just take the call then assist me. She put the person on hold and said, "Im just going to go find out..." While walking away. She got the manager (?) in on this ordeal. While I was waiting a salesman asked me if everything was okay. I told him I had been waiting for an hour to see the man in insurance. So the manager, the receptionist and the salesman all told me that he had gone home. I had waited at the end of a long day for nothing. I left mad. The next day when I went back there was a different receptionist who was more helpful. One salesman had the gull to tell me that I should be watching for him so he doesnt leave again like yesterday. Insinuating it was my fault? No. You are supposed to let him know Im here. Its not my job to do any of this. The person who sold me the car forgot my name. I thought that was kind of funny. But before that hiccup, the environment was inviting, professional and precise. I would recommend this dealership to people. Overall I would have given 3.5 just because I was so upset that one day but... 4 seems better because I understand we all make mistakes. ☆☆☆☆
