I was referred to Canadawide Auto Sales in West Edmonton by a friend, and made an appointment to go look at vehicles on January 20th. I test-drove one car, a Chrysler 200 LX, and the salesman convinced me to buy it right then and there. I was alone at the dealer, and was very excited at the prospect of buying my first new car without any help. I didnt know anything about financing, what constitutes a good deal, or all the things that go along with the purchase of a new car. I was approved almost immediately, and they sent me into the financing office to speak with R.B., the financial manager. I was given an interest rate of 6.24%. I have a credit score in the excellent zone, but I figured the high rate was because it was my first time financing anything. They told me about all these different things that I could get along with the car, like Health and Accident Insurance, Life Insurance, and an extended warranty. I declined the first two, but when I asked why I would need an extended warranty, they told me that banks preferred I have it. I thought that meant they wouldnt approve a loan unless I agreed to it, so I did (I later found out that this is called tied selling and is illegal). The next day, after the excitement had worn off, I took all of the paperwork to my boyfriends father so he could look it over, since he has purchased many new vehicles in his lifetime. My heart dropped when he looked at me and said that they had divested me of a large sum of money. In total, I would have paid $31,000 over 72 months for a car that they sold to me as Used, with only 1500 or so kilometers on it and for a little more than $20,000 before the added fees, including a mandatory $400 "Documentation Fee" that is a scam, as I later found out. I called the salesman right away saying that I had reviewed the paperwork and that I no longer wanted the car. He told me that was okay, and that hed get the finance manager to contact me. I thought that was the end of it since I didnt receive a call from anyone. On January 27th, I got a call from work saying that some lady had dropped keys off for me. Immediately afterwards, I got a call from the salesman saying that they had parked the car in the visitor parking at my apartment building and had taken the keys to my workplace. I reminded him that I had decided not to take it, to which he replied "well, you signed legal documents, so its yours". Sure enough, he had dropped the car off, unregistered and uninsured, in a public parking lot with open access, then brought the keys to my workplace where anyone could have taken them. This was all without any attempt at prior notification, since I only found out after all was said and done and they had left. I cant find it in the parking lot, but I dont know if thats because I dont recognize it or because it isnt actually there. After doing a bit of research, I called AMVIC, which I understand is the authority on car dealerships. They told me that there is no "cooling-off" period in Alberta, and that what the salesman did was essentially deliver the car. They agreed that how the salesman went about delivering the car was not okay, and advised me to submit a complaint about that, but that I was pretty much stuck with the vehicle. I understand that the economy is bad, but I didnt think that car dealerships were so hurt that they felt the need to take advantage of a first-time buyer who came in alone. Im only 21, and I just wanted to be independent and handle my own purchases. I have definitely learned my lesson. To be honest, I just want to get out of this ridiculous contract and never work with this dealership again. Im still quite upset over how stupid I was and how easy it was for them to take advantage of my ignorance.

This dealership has horrible customer service and the inexperienced staff are the exact definition of sleazy salesmen only caring about their commission. The day I came to pick up the car it had a near empty gas tank- this meant that my first stop from the dealership had to be the nearest gas station. Also, upon closer inspection I saw that the bottom driver side bumper of the car had been scratched badly and there were multiple rock chips in the front bumper and hood of the car; (and they weren’t minor either) this damage was previously hidden by the snow and was unmentioned by any of the sales staff. However, the absolute worse was that the car came with only one key- and it was bent at a 90-degree angle! When I approached my sales associate Claude Boulet with my concerns over the damages he refused to do anything to help my situation and just shrugged the damages since the deal was already done and he had been relieved of any responsibilities. Furthermore, the manager gave the excuse that all of the 12 vehicles bought form the rental offices all had the same chip damages! After much arguing he decided to provide me with the cheapest solution in the form of a touch up paint they would give me, and at this point I was so skeptical that I had both managers actually sign a contract to ensure that the car was repaired. After signing the told me they would contact me in about a week when the paint arrives. I never received any calls and when I tried to reach my sales associate’s personal number (which he always answered before the deal) I always got his voicemail. I had to drive down to the dealership myself and present the contract signed by the manager to get any attention at all. Shortly after getting the work done on my vehicle my back passenger window stopped working, and they were going to charge me another 250$ for the repairs for the faulty wiring they had done while installing my car starter, fortunately, the car was still under warranty and I was lucky enough to be taken care of by an actual dealership. I would NEVER recommend this dealership to any of my friends or family after the way I was treated here. BEWARE when lower prices are offered it’s at the expense of the value of the vehicle and the lacking in customer experience from this dealership. P.S. The very first purchase I made (after the tank of gas I had to pay to get home) was a glass scraper to get their name off my back window to ensure no one on the road would get the same idea of buying a car from them.

Terrible overall. I went there looking for a specific vehicle after seeing 5 of them listed on auto trader. I even walked by 3 of the 5 in the lot before getting into the building (but as mentioned by someone else no prices listed on the vehicles). Then when informing the sales person of the vehicles I was looking for he wasnt even sure they had any of those models. So we directed him towards the 3 he had seen. Then he couldnt even tell me the prices for them. He had to bring us back inside and he pulled up the advertisements on autotrader. And he still couldnt be sure they had any available. He then tried to suggest other cars to which I said I wasnt interested. But he was really pushy and he gave us a printout of the advertisement from autotrader. Needless to say I walked out of there shaking my head. Then to top it off the sales guy phoned me twice the next day and left no message saying who had called as I dont answer unknown numbers. And he phoned me again a few days after that asking me if I had found any cars to purchase. When I told him I had found a great deal at an actual dealership he was asking me to tell him what I paid et etc trying to get me to buy from them. Worst dealer I dealt with all day that day. If you have a chance avoid this place at all costs and visit the actual dealerships which are all walking distance from that place.
