Hello Everyone A fair warning about AMVIC. AMVIC is powerless on resolving any issues you have with a dealership they work with. They will always pick the dealership side and will repeat word for word whatever the dealership gives them. They say they will protect consumer rights and be the mediator on a dispute, let me tell you they didn’t even receive the documents from the dealership; they will base their answer on the documents you provided. This really happened: Dealership said they provided documents to AMVIC for my complaint. Email AMVIC and ask about those documents as I wanted to get a copy for myself. They called me and told me that they didn’t received it and regardless it won’t change anything because of the decision was made. Save your complain try to resolve it between the dealership and do your research about your car that you will buy and the dealership from where you’re getting it from. - Have officially burned my relationship with the dealership. o They won’t return any of my calls for service AMVIC is nothing compare to OMVIC which works with the ministry of transportation to insure you’re getting your rights are hold dealership responsible. Because Alberta doesn’t have a mandatory Safety inspection just a courtesy inspection, just make sure to inspect everything even. If the car is 50k used car Dealership will always cheap out on something.

I filed a complaint on a dealership down south through this organization, thinking that with all my documentation, I may see some of the money I had to pay for repairs. As it turns out, AMVIC sided with the dealership. I do understand buying used has its costs/benefits, however I honestly cannot see anyone enjoying a repair bill of $6086 for a vehicle you paid $39,000.00 within 4 months 29 days of purchase, of that; $400 for new batteries the very next day of purchase and close to $500 a month later. A word or caution to all, the Mechanical Fitness Assessment (MFA) any dealership provides IS NOT worth the paper it is printed on and it is only good for 120 days from the date of purchase. Have your vehicle inspected by a proper licensed mechanic prior to your purchase. You will pay for the inspection but could potentially save thousands in repairs later on down the road.

I agree with the majority of others who have posted here. Absolutely useless! I was ripped off bad by Precision Motor Worx ltd in Airdrie and reported it to AMVIC and everything they said was totally in favour of the "dealership" if you can even call it that. I didnt matter that they relied on dealerships word and paperwork even though I mentioned numerous times that the paperwork wasnt accurate and lied on and that the owner blatantly lied about the vast majority of things wrong with the car. All of that didnt seem to matter one bit. The car in question is such a piece of junk Im still having problems that I need to get fixed. Long story short, I wouldnt waste your time with AMVIC if you have a problem. They wont help you and will just waste your time and give you a round-around.

Poor experience, if any dealership says they are AMVIC certified that means nothing. AMVIC cannot resolve anything. They take dealership side and please dont buy any vehicles from Barlow motors Calgary they are a bad dealership. Even my investigator before even investigating the issue said Barlow motors is hard to deal with...I mean then why are they getting certification. Buy on your own from kijiji or auto trader. There should be a consumer court or something to resolve this issue. AMVIC told me to go to civil court now and they did nothing. I wish there was rating -1 . I can give details to anyone who wants to know more.

Wrote in a complaint about sales practice. Response was I have to take the dealership to small claims. I wonder what is the use of the council if they is not able to help consumers? In addition, their board is made up of dealerships... conflict of interest?

They need to increase their AMVIC tax so they can hire more staff. Under funded so they under perform. Especially bad with following up with internet advertising. Several dealers still use bait and switch tactics by advertising vehicles they dont have.

Ive made a few phone calls over the years to clear up questions concerning road safety with child seats and tie down anchor points or questions about specfic vehicle modifications and have always been given direct and easy to use advice.

Amvic is to consumers what HR is to employees. It seems like they have your best interest at heart when in reality they are solely looking out for the company. Amvic is not on your side, they exist to protect the dealerships.

Useless entity that serves the dealerships. You get ripped off in Alberta well its your fault for shopping in Alberta. There all crooks in the industry.

Completely worthless. Probably set up by the auto industry to avoid the creation of an agency capable of any real oversight. Negative one stars.
